Lobsters-Online.com Celebrates 25 Years!

Lobsters-Online.com is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2022. The nation’s oldest lobster and seafood website, launched in 1997, was the first to market, sell and deliver live lobster overnight to the end consumer (B2C).

To help build on its early success, in 2001 the website partnered with the Lobster Trap Co., Inc., one of the largest live lobster and seafood distributors in the country. The Lobster Trap had the facilities, relationships, and logistics to provide the freshest live lobster and seafood from the fisherman’s boats in Maine and Cape Cod directly to the end customer. The joint venture enjoyed years of tremendous growth (20%+ each year) until online sales platforms exploded in the mid 2000’s with new competitors and technology starting to emerge.

Recognizing how critical this digital platform was to the business, the Lobster Trap acquired 100% ownership of Lobsters-Online.com in 2019. Immediately, investments were made to upgrade the platform to newer technology and expand marketing efforts. Although the initial transition was difficult, it paid off as sales grew by an incredible 480% in 2020. As a further testament to its success, Lobsters-Online.com was ranked the Best Overall Lobster Delivery Service in 2020 by The Spruce Eats (Independent news/media platform that focuses on culinary experience).

In 2021, changes were made to improve the customer experience. The website was rebranded, extensive improvements made to website functionality, product offerings expanded, and order minimums eliminated. For the second year in a row, The Spruce Eats ranked Lobsters-Online.Com as the Best Overall Lobster Delivery Service for 2021.
